How the CO2 Performance Ladder contributes to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) consist of 17 objectives that according to the United Nations ‘will make the world a better place by 2030’. These SDG’s concern issues such as the fight against climate change, poverty, and the development of sustainable cities. How can organizations contribute to these goals? And how does the CO2 Performance Ladder play its part?
The 13th goal of the SDG’s calls upon civilians, governments and organizations to fight against climate change. With this goal, the UN refers to the Paris Climate Agreement. This deal states that the global temperature rise should stay within the limits of 2 degrees Celsius and ultimately 1,5 degrees Celsius. In order to achieve this goal, greenhouse gas emissions such as carbon dioxide should drastically be diminished.
How can your organization contribute to the SDG’s?
Organizations that have implemented the CO2 Performance Ladder as a management system continuously decrease the amount of their carbon emissions. Research shows that implementation of the CO2 Performance Ladder leads to CO2 emission reduction that is two times higher than the average carbon emission reduction in the Netherlands. The system can also be implemented by commissioning parties in tendering procedures, which provides many opportunities to ensure sustainable practices and innovation within projects.
The implementation of the CO2 Performance Ladder therefore leads to successful reduction of CO2, which contributes to the achievement of the 13th SDG.
Innovation and sustainable infrastructure
Next to the 13th SDG, the CO2 Performance Ladder is also in line with the 9th goal of the SDG’s. This goal states that organizations and governments should modernize infrastructure and maintain sustainable practices. In this goal, the UN puts emphasis on energy efficiency and the development of ecological technologies and industrial processes.
The CO2 Performance Ladder is suitable for organizations and governments, that aim to actively fight against climate change by focusing on CO2 reduction. Moreover, the CO2 Performance Ladder is applicable in different kinds of projects, ranging from waste management, ICT and infrastructure.
